personally, I don’t think we need lesbian-only spaces. But I do think that we need to be specific with our language. It is ok to use terms like sapphic and wlw when we are trying to be inclusive of many different orientations/experiences. But when we are talking about lesbians, we need to say lesbians. When we are talking about bisexual women, we need to say bisexual. For example, Audre Lorde was a lesbian. When speaking about her, call her a lesbian. Don’t call her a “sapphic wlw”. She proudly used the word lesbian when speaking about herself and we need to respect that. Sapphic and wlw are great terms to bring together gay women, but we need to make sure that we are not using them to erase people’s specific identities.
